'Express Yourself' at 28 North Street, Hailsham

North Street, Hailsham

Hailsham Trust purchased 28 North Street (formerly Ellis Domestics) early in 2005, with the help of funding from South East England Development Agency (SEEDA) and Wealden District Council. As with Prospects House a complete refurbishment was carried out, turning an old building into light and airy accommodation.

Eastbourne and County Healthcare Trust managed an art gallery 'Express Yourself', displaying and selling artwork by local artists and people who have experienced mental health issues. The shop opened in July 2005 and was run as a social enterprise, so any profits made are re-invested into the business. Due to the project success in 2006, Kenny MacKay and his team have now relocated to bigger premises in Hailsham.

Training & Development

Training opportunities and personal development organised by Hailsham Trust cover a wide range of subjects and abilities. Courses have proved very popular with local people who appreciate the individual attention they receive.

Recent courses have included computer training, first aid, food hygiene, which are all recognised qualifications to help future employment. Other courses include assertiveness, personal safety and fire protection. Training programmes are provided in partnership with other organisations such as the emergency services and Sussex Downs College. Many of these courses are generally free of charge as funding can often be arranged.  Any training ideas and requests can be forwarded to Karen Crozier on the training request form below, or contact Karen at Prospects House, 7-9 George Street, Hailsham, BN27 1AD, 01323 446403, karen.crozier@hailshamtrust.co.uk.
